Upcoming Elections for SR and MRN Planning Groups

With the March elections for community planning groups fast approaching, the Scripps Ranch Planning Group (SRPG) and the Miramar Ranch North Planning Committee (MRNPC) are seeking new members to serve on their boards. These groups, which comprise the Scripps Ranch community, are two of the more than forty community planning groups that have been organized and recognized by the City of San Diego to advise the City Council, Planning Commission, and Planning Department staff on the preparation, adoption, implementation, or amendment of the community plan--the "blueprint" document that serves to guide the long-range development of each community.

As part of these duties, the planning groups have the opportunity to review and provide input on a variety of City planning issues and development proposals within their communities. In addition, the community planning groups will assist with the "Strategic Framework" effort that will define how adequate housing, transportation, and infrastructure will be provided in the City of San Diego over the next twenty years.

In order to be eligible to serve on one of these planning groups, you must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and be affiliated with one of the communities as a resident, business person (with a business address in the community), or property owner.

There will be a total of nine seats up for election to the SRPG, to serve two-year terms. The boundaries of the Scripps Miramar Ranch planning area lie in the southern part of Scripps Ranch and are defined in general by Miramar Lake to the north, the City of Poway to the northeast, MCAS Miramar to the east and south, and Interstate 15 to the west.

Those interested in joining the group or voting in the election should contact chair Bob Ilko at 619-682-4807, and request a general membership application. You are also welcome to attend the next monthly SRPG meeting, to be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Scripps Ranch Library on 10301 Scripps Lake Drive. The election will be held at the meeting on Thursday, Mar. 7.

There will be a total of four seats up for election to the MRNPC, to serve four-year terms. The boundaries of the Miramar Ranch North planning area lies in the northern part of Scripps Ranch encompassing all of Scripps Ranch Villages and is located generally south of Sabre Springs, north of Miramar Lake, east of Interstate 15, and west of Poway.

Those interested in joining the MRNPC or voting in the election should contact chair Peggy Shirey at 530-3833 and request a general membership application. In addition to meeting the eligibility requirements cited above, you must also have attended one of the monthly meetings in the twelve (12) months prior to the March election.

You are welcome to attend the next monthly MRNPC meeting, to be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Scripps Ranch Information Center on 11885 Cypress Canyon Road, just north of Marshall Middle School. The election will be held at the meeting on Tuesday, Mar. 5.
