Have you ever attended a community or HOA meeting at the Scripps Ranch Information Center facility that graces the cover of this Newsletter? In the first 10 months of this year, over 4,500 folks attended no less than 233 meetings in this facility that is located on Cypress Canyon Road between Scripps Poway Parkway and the new Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary School campus. This facility houses the historical archives of the Scripps Ranch community in addition to GIS mapping capabilities and meeting rooms.
The city of San Diego's current budget deficit has unfortunately put budgetary support for this facility in question. The SRCA will work closely with our City Council office and the mayor's office to clarify the net costs of keeping the center open and to strive for creative ways to justify keeping the center open and available to our community.
On November 18 the City Council proclaimed "Gloria Tran Day" in honor of Scripps Ranch resident and multi-committee volunteer Gloria Tran. We congratulate and thank Gloria for her many volunteer commitments. For more on her efforts, please see page 9.
Please welcome Rene Buck to the SRCA Board, representing the Lakeview, Galleria, Sunset Ridge, and Renaissance neighborhoods of District 11. Rene has known Scripps Ranch since 1972, when the community was new.
There are two SRCA Board openings in the following districts: District 6--representing the Wine Country and the Huntington condos; and, District 19--representing Legacy, Cypress Canyon Park, and the condos south of the park.
If you're interested in making Scripps Ranch a better place to live and joining a great volunteer team, please contact SRCA executive vice president Jan Kane at 577-0014 or [[email protected]].
Also, recognize the risk you run when you leave outgoing mail in your mailbox, particularly when you raise the box flag. Risks of identity theft initiating from stolen mail are on the rise nationwide, and Scripps Ranch is proving to be no exception. The article on page 11 has more.
For one final time, Scripps Ranch bids farewell to Councilmember Brian Maienschein and his dedicated chief of staff, Lance Witmondt. For the past eight years, they have served the Scripps Ranch community as true partners, living through the post-Cedar Fire trauma with us and delivering private-sector on-call customer service throughout their dual four-year terms.
We wish both of them the best in their future endeavors, and again thank them for their dedication, assistance, and representation. Our new councilmember-elect, Carl DeMaio, takes office on Tuesday, Dec. 9. We look forward to working with him and his selected staff.
The SRCA would like to thank all of our corporate members who have supported the community this year. Your memberships have helped us enhance the Scripps Ranch quality of life that we have worked so hard to create.
In 2008 the SRCA supported the Marshall Middle School bus program, repaired our community playing fields, donated funds to our schools to help offset the budget cuts, and put on our annual 4th of July Parade--just to name a few.
