Have you formally joined the SRCA as a supporting member for as low as $20 annually? If not, you can do so right now with your credit card. Just visit the SRCA website at [www.scrippsranch.org]. Becoming a dues-paying member enables your participation in SRCA surveys regarding the quality of life in Scripps Ranch.
Mark your calendar for the annual 4th of July Parade and Festivities! Why not join the parade?! The entry form on page 7 tells you how. Are there any blocks or cul-de-sacs ready to create a neighborhood float, as Loire Valley, Leafwood, and others have done? We hope so!
The Scripps Ranch community owes huge thanks to Jennifer and Sean Blake and Jennifer's mother, Karen McElliott. In memory of longtime Scripps Ranch resident Ron McElliott, they created Project Heart Beat and have enabled, with some help from the SRCA, our community to be the first to place lifesaving AEDs in every one of our Scripps Ranch public schools. Read the story on page 47 to learn about how tragedy spawned a lifelong community asset.
- District 5: Avenida Magnifica area;
- District 11: Lakeview area; and,
- District 19: Cypress Cyn. Pk. area.
Entries vary from local businesses, youth or neighborhood groups, car clubs, schools, and more. Get your friends together and create a float! The entry form is on page 7. The entry deadline is Friday, June 20. We are looking for more bands or musical groups for the parade.
More fun comes after the parade when the SRCA hosts festivities in Hoyt Park. We will have free ice cream from our Scripps Ranch Baskin and Robbins, sponsored by Ozzie and Tanya and Mission Federal Credit Union. There will be many activities for the kids. New this year will be Rob the DJ, who will have you rockin'. Also new will be a food booth offering hot dogs and shaved ice for a reasonable price.
Our goal is to create an event that is a gift to the community from the SRCA. With the help of our wonderful committee--Bill Crooks, Jany Staley, Jan Kane, Mary Drummond, Nemie Capacia, and Bob Dingeman--I think we did it again. Thanks also to all the volunteers who helped with parking and traffic control.
The SRCA would like to personally thank Rachel Votel and the Symphony in the Park Committee for their concert with The Mar Dels, following the Community Fair. A big thank you also goes to the fantastic Bayou Brothers for keeping the Community Fair rockin' all day long.
