SRCA
Let's Work Together
The SRCA's Together We Are Scripps Ranch Fundraising Drive continues. The SRCA needs funds to help support Neighborhood Watch, Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP), Elder Care, Sustainable SR, the planning groups, and our public schools. Funds also are needed to continue to sponsor great events like the Community Fair and 4th of July Parade. Please go to [www.scrippsranch.org] to make your contribution, or go to page 7, fill out the form, and send it in. Donate today to see that tomorrow we can continue to serve the entire community.
Mail Theft Warning
Did you hear about the mailbox thefts? Mail was stolen out of boxes on Fairbrook Road, Mesa Madera Drive, Forestview Lane, Lake Rim Drive, and Scripps Lake Drive. Do not leave mail in your box unless you have one that locks. Most of the thefts occurred overnight.
New Park Problems
First copper wiring was stolen, now the actual security lights were taken at Cypress Canyon Park. Please go to page 19 for the latest information as to when lockboxes are expected to arrive so that the copper wiring can be replaced and our parks can get back to normal. Remember, the SRCA and the SR Recreation Council have offered a combined $1,000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of those responsible.
Spruce Run Drive Light
What about the signal light for Spring Canyon Road at Spruce Run Drive? It was supposed to be started last December but the latest from the city is that they are in the process of routing the paperwork to award the construction task. As of press time, it was anticipated that a pre-construction meeting would be held in late January or early February and that the selected contractor would start construction right after that meeting.
Stop the Trash Dumping
Please help the residents who live near the open space at Appaloosa Road and Atrium Drive. People have dumped garbage and unwanted greenery on the open space lot. The cleanup costs all of us because the SR Maintenance Assessment District pays to dispose of the garbage. If you see anyone dumping trash, please take a picture and call police at 484-3154 with a description of the person(s) and a license plate, if possible.
Say "Thank You"
Monday, Feb. 20, is the deadline for the SRCA Volunteer Recognition Night nominations! Please go online to [www.scrippsranch.org] to submit a nomination for someone you think should be thanked for volunteering in our community. Is there a homeowners association board member who did a great job or someone who went out of their way to help? Please let us know!
The Taste of Success
Scripps Ranch High School's Taste of the Ranch is an annual fundraiser and a fun event! It is the place to be to meet people who had children at the high school, who currently have children there, and who will have children attending in the future. It's also a great party! Don't forget all the items you can bid on in the auctions. This year, if you cannot attend the event, you can bid online! Check out pages 40-41 for details.
Surf's Up
This month's Spotlight on Scripps Ranch shines on the amazing Patrick Ivison, a Scripps Ranch High School senior who is a quadriplegic. By going to page 43 you will find out about this wonderfully courageous young man and his special "surf dog." It's a great story!

SRCA's Fundraising Drive
The Scripps Ranch Civic Association (SRCA) kicked off its 2012 Fundraising Drive in the January SRCA Newsletter. This month, supporter information can be found on page 7 of this Newsletter.
A self-addressed envelope was inserted in the January Newsletter to make it more convenient for supporters to send in their contributions. The yearly solicitation letter that was formerly mailed to our supporters has been discontinued. Please complete the supporter information form on page 7 and send it in with your yearly contribution. You also can give online on the SRCA website at [www.scrippsranch.org].
Either way, please donate now as your support is vital to fund the many programs and activities the SRCA supports. We have no other source of funds to support our activities on behalf of our community. Together we are Scripps Ranch!
Time to Express Gratitude
Scripps Ranch could not operate without its countless number of volunteers. Once a year, the SRCA invites the community to Recognition Night to thank some of those volunteers. How does the SRCA hear about these folks? From you!
Please nominate your favorite volunteer and say, "Thanks." Just use the form at [www.scrippsranch.org]. The nomination deadline is Monday, Feb. 20. Then join us on Monday, Apr. 9, at 6:30 pm in the Marshall Middle School theater for Recognition Night. See you there!
Community Fair 2012
It's February! Have you noted Sunday, May 6, on your calendar as the date for the Scripps Ranch Community Fair? This year's fair will offer something for everyone. You can look forward to new vendors, food selections, and music.
Are you a local business, crafter, artist, or community group that would like to showcase your product, service, or information to Scripps Ranch residents? Contact Jan McGinn, committee chair, at [communityfair@scrippsranch.org]. See you at the fair!

UCSD TREDS Program to Go Statewide
UCSD has announced that its successful Training, Research, and Education for Driving Safety (TREDS) program will be available statewide after success in several counties in California. TREDS focuses on training health care professionals and law enforcement personnel to be more aware of and adequately address different processes of both normal and abnormal aging that can impact an older adult's driving skills. With TREDS training, professionals can help ensure senior drivers are equipped to drive safely. For details, call 534-9330 or email [TREDS@ucsd.edu].
