Welcome Club Celebrates 31 Years!

Happy anniversary to us! Yes, February is our anniversary month. At our general meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7, we will celebrate our 31st year of fun, camaraderie, and community service. We will recognize our new members, and member Dorothy Mildice will give a presentation on the Galapagos Islands. Our meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 pm at the Scripps Ranch Swim and Racquet Club on Aviary Drive.

The club has many activities: bunco, pitch, bridge, theater group, coffees, crafts, walking, and biking, to mention a few. Why not give yourself a Valentine and visit [www.scrippsranchwelcomeclub.com] to see if this just might be the new activity for you?

Applications are located at the Scripps Ranch Library and on our website. If you have any further questions, please call Becky McDonald at 578-5693 or Janelle Boustany at 271-4159.

Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary

After recovering from the holidays, we're off and running! Our "Denim and Diamonds" fundraiser is on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the beautiful home of Cheryl and Bjorn Steinholt. This is a casual wine tasting event for only $25 per person and is a wonderful way to get together with friends while supporting Rady Children's Hospital. For more information on this event or to RSVP, please contact Cheryl at 547-0365.

Guess who's turning 40? We would like to invite all the past members to come join us at Yanni's Bistro on Sunday, Apr. 29, to help us celebrate 40 years as a unit. Under the leadership of Lynn Gengler, a group of 10-12 women began the Scripps Ranch Unit of the Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary in 1972. The first fashion show was staged on the tennis courts of the "new" Swim and Racquet Club, with members acting as the models, barbeque chefs, and lunch servers. As the community of Scripps Ranch has grown, so has our Auxiliary Unit, which now has more than 40 active members and 40 supporting members.

You can part of this valuable community organization. For more information on our unit and the types of memberships available, please contact Kami Evora at 831-9179 or [kveora@san.rr.com] or Rebecca Flynn at 619-804-4915 or [rebecca@borrellidesign.com].

Also, you can follow our unit on Facebook at "Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary, Scripps Ranch Unit" or visit us online at [www.rcha-scrippsranch.org].

HVH Auxiliary

The staff and clients at the Hidden Valley House (HVH) have asked us to extend a "huge thank you" to all who donated money, gift cards, clothing, diapers, and other "needs of the month" throughout last year. They are overwhelmed with everyone's generosity.

Through their "Bridging Hearts" program this past holiday season, the Center for Community Solutions (CCS), the umbrella organization that operates the HVH shelter, matched 126 families with San Diego residents who donated food and gifts to the kids and families during the year. If you would like to participate in their program, please contact Kelly Berger at [kberger@ccssd.org].

Current needs are diapers, baby toiletries, and women's sleepwear, all sizes. Donations can be dropped off at the Scripps Ranch Library or at the home of Ellen Hawkins, 11528 Wills Creek Road. Thank you for your continued support!

Heartfelt Greetings from the SR Women's Club

February brings two fun events for our club: Fine Dining with Wine Pairing on Saturday, Feb. 25; and, Bowling Night on Saturday, Feb. 18. The 32-member couples' dining group meets in groups of eight in different homes where they enjoy a four-course gourmet dinner paired with complementary fine wines. Bowling Night will take place at Poway Bowl with players vying for the best score and experiencing lots of laughs.

Our group has a serious side as well with ongoing fundraising that benefits Scripps Ranch schools and other community organizations. Watch for news later this spring about the big Scripps Ranch Women's Club garage sale.

We welcome our neighbors to form new friendships, have fun, and improve our community. Please call Joette Briggs at 695-3441 to become a member.

Don't Miss Brooklyn Boy at the Scripps Ranch Theatre

Brooklyn Boy, an inspirational comedy-drama about going home again, back to family and friends and the old neighborhood, is now at the Scripps Ranch Theatre (SRT). The show runs through Saturday, Feb. 18. The play is a witty, emotionally rich tale of a novelist who hits the best-seller list with his third novel, just as his personal life begins to unravel. The play touches on the age-old themes of parental approval, the lure of fame, and the loss of romantic love.

For reservations, ticket prices, and more information, visit the SRT website at [www.scrippsranchtheatre.org] or call the theater box office at 578-7728.

Scripps Tips

Networking Group

"Working from home" is increasingly more common. The explosion of technological advances has opened the door to the "virtual office." Yet with this business model there is potentially one missing piece--synergy. This is where Scripps Tips comes in. There is value in group interaction and our networking group provides this benefit to members!

If you would like to consider the positive benefits of meeting weekly with other self-motivated small business owners, professionals, or independent product reps, visit [www.scrippstips.net] and then call our president, Cheryl Chase-Berkson, at 922-3720 for information. Each member represents a different business or profession so there is no competition for referrals. We welcome you!
