Scripps Ranch Schools Committee (SRSC)
Happy New (School) Year!
Your Scripps Ranch Schools Committee (SRSC) will continue its goals for the betterment of our students’ education and our schools’ welfare. Working goals include K–12 Pathways—to make transitions into higher grades and schools as seamless as possible—as well as STEAM funding and grants. If you have an idea to help improve our already award-winning school community, please attend our meetings or use the contact information below.
Your Voice Needed
We are strongly aware of the ongoing process of a joint-use occupancy agreement at the current site of Innovations Academy (IA). Although the school board recently approved $20 million in Prop Z school bond funds to provide IA with a new location outside of Scripps Ranch, we will continue to urge the board to keep the discussion open as to the future of this coveted Scripps Ranch school property.
We know education can be expensive, but our district budget continues to take hits, placing our students at risk. The 2016–2017 budget includes $24.6 million in “reductions in expenditures,” and there are still projected shortfalls of $135 million by the 2018–2019 school year.
There are explanations for these decreasing budgets, but your SRSC will take a strong stand in decisions affecting our school cluster, which is the high school, middle school, and the four Scripps Ranch elementary schools that “feed” into the middle school. We will keep you updated, and we know that you will help support our neighborhood schools and students.
2017–2018 School Calendar
The school board has approved the calendar for the 2017–2018 school year. Once again, school will start prior to Labor Day, on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017. To see the entire calendar, please visit www.scrippsranch.org/schoolcalendar.
Be “In The Know”
Please join us at our meetings to hear the latest school news. We meet every third Wednesday of the month—during the school year—at 4:30 pm in the Marshall Middle School Community Room.
