Scripps Ranch Schools Committee (SRSC)

In July, the Scripps Ranch Schools Committee (SRSC) met at its usual time–the first Tuesday of each month at 4 pm–in the seminar room of the Scripps Ranch Library. The discussion centered on the feasibility of the SRSC becoming a special standing subcommittee of the Scripps Ranch Civic Association (SRCA), in order to come under their liability insurance umbrella.

Three alternatives were proposed:

  • Become an SRCA special standing subcommittee with autonomy for making community recommendations to the Board of Education. That would require an amendment to the SRCA by-laws.
  • Remain an independent committee, outside the SRCA, but be brought under the existing SRCA insurance umbrella.
  • Remain an independent committee with a new liability insurance policy funded by the SRCA.

The SRCA representatives who were present at the Schools Committee meeting–Jan Kane, Awilda Parada, Elissa Barber, and Peter Wulff–presented the proposal to the SRCA at its July meeting.

The SRCA discussed the request, but no decision was made. There will be more information gathering and the topic will be on the SRCA agenda again in September.

The SRSC also held elections for new co-chairs. We are very pleased that Joyce Berzle and Denise Ouellette were unanimously elected to the co-chair positions for the ensuing year. Bob Dingeman was elected secretary at the June meeting. The SRSC will not meet in August.

The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 4-6 pm in the seminar room of the Scripps Ranch Library. Please note that this is the second Tuesday of the month, rather than the usual first Tuesday, due to the fact that Sept. 3 is the first day of the new school year.
