Schools Committee

A scheduled meeting of the Scripps Ranch Schools Committee (SRSC) was held in the Seminar Room of the library on Aug. 7 from 4-6 pm. Attendance was light due to vacations and conflicting meetings. Pam Montanile, MRNPC representative, gave a report on traffic and school signage issues along Scripps Poway Pkwy. The City has agreed to fund and install School Zone signs and School Crossing signs and striping at Spring Canyon Rd. and Scripps Creek Rd., and School Crossing signs and striping at Cypress Canyon Rd. The speed limit along Scripps Poway Pkwy will be reduced to 50 mph and is radar enforceable. The City has approved the installation of flashing beacons at the School Zone signs, but funding must come from the SDU School District. A motion was made and seconded that this committee would send a letter to SDUSD requesting funding of the flashing beacons.

The By-Laws Subcommittee, Jeff Tirshfield, Dingeman rep., Pam Montanile, and Janet Dray, Co-Chair, presented a draft of proposed By-Laws for the SRSC. There was lengthy discussion of Article 1 through Article 111, section 3, with the intent of the document to ensure open, democratic process stressed. Discussion will continue at the next scheduled meeting. There was also discussion about whether the SRSC should become a freestanding committee or operate under the auspices of the SRCA, providing the SRSC has autonomy in its decision making process.

There was no update from the Common Calendar/Bell Time Subcommittee or the School Size/Number Subcommittee. The next scheduled meeting of the SRSC is Tuesday, Sept. 11 from 4-6 pm in the Seminar Room of the SR Library. Please note the change in date from Sept 4 to Sept 11.
