SRCA Schools Committee

The Scripps Ranch Civic Association Schools Committee met in October to discuss the continuing overcrowding at many of our schools. The current enrollment at our schools is summarized below:

Dingeman Elementary–861

E.B. Scripps Elementary–440

Jerabek Elementary–923

Miramar Ranch Elementary–746

Marshall Middle School–1,090

Scripps Ranch High School–2,082

Elementary Total–2,970

Grand Total–6,142

It should be noted that the total enrollment is only 21 students higher than was forecast by the district demographer last year.

The most pressing problem is that Marshall Middle School will not be able to accommodate the number of students forecast for the 2003-2004 school year. The district will work with the Schools Committee to determine what steps should be taken to alleviate the crowding at our current middle school.

The Schools Committee will discuss this topic again at the November meeting. We hope to have updated enrollment

projections through the year 2006, which is when our new middle school is slated to open.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 4-6 pm in the Scripps Ranch Library’s seminar room. As always, the public is invited to attend.
