Elinor Reiss was devoted to her family and friends, and to service to her community. Elinor began a 75 year journalism career writing for the school newspaper in high school. She was graduated from Vassar College, where she wrote for the college newspaper and earned a degree in Sociology. Elinor met Oscar Reiss, a medical resident, in New York and they married in 1953. They moved to Bristol, CT, where Oscar set up his medical practice and where they raised their five children. Elinor loved her life in Bristol, writing publicity for civic organizations and enriching the lives of her children. In 1984, Elinor and Oscar moved to San Diego, where Elinor resumed her journalism career, earning awards for her writing. She was instrumental in opening the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library in1993. Elinor was an avid reader. She developed an interest in the works of Mark Twain, giving presentations locally and attending conferences nationally. Preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Elinor leaves behind her five children: Steve Reiss (Iris), Marcia Reiss-Franklin (Dave Franklin), Mike Reiss (Denise), John Reiss (Jerrell Walls), and Alice Reiss-Malone (Don Malone). She also leaves behind one granddaughter, Elizabeth Franklin(David Shahnooshi) and two great-granddaughters, Emma and Mari. A private service was held in San Diego.
