President Ilko called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm.
5th Council District – Tiffany Leal reported:
The new traffic signal scheduled for Spring Canyon and Spruce Run has been delayed due to waiting for approval of the purchase order.
Park & Recreation by Friday will have replaced the field lighting at Spring Canyon and Community Parks.
Repaving being done on Scripps Ranch Blvd. between Pomerado to Aviary.
Tot lot replacement of deteriorating equipment. This can initiate ADA requirements which between several parks would total $2.4M. Park & Rec, Recreation Council Chairperson Marc Sorensen and Council looking if they can replace only deteriorating parts to avoid the costly ADA upgrades, otherwise the old equipment would have to be removed with no replacement.
No. Clairemont Recreation Center – Carl rolled out his Volunteers Program. He would like to partner with volunteer organizations and groups can post need for volunteers in DeMaio’s monthly Dispatch.
Supervisor Slater-Price – Steven Hadley reported:
Earned Income Tax credit. County available to assist filling out forms to those eligible so they can obtain the credit.
Preteen Vaccination Week – February 12-18th encourages parents to immunize their adolescent children.
County’s Mental Health Board – looking for qualified people in the mental health field to sit on this board. If you know of anyone have them contact the Supervisor’s office.
Congressman Hunter – Andrea Jones reported:
Job Fair – February 24th at the Poway Community Center from 9:00 am to noon. They have 65 employers participating.
Recognition Night – Capacia reported that they still are looking for more nominations to be submitted for residents that have volunteered and should be recognized. Deadline for submissions is February 20th. Committee and some Officers will be meeting February 23th to pick Citizen of the Year and other major awards.
Community Fair – McGinn indicated the event will have a spread in the March issue of the 92131 magazine and centerfold of April Newsletter. There will be a couple of new food vendors – Kaminiski’s Super Q and Green Truck (healthy food). Music will be by Blues Wailers. Still working on acquiring sponsors, vendors and non-profits. Will need additional volunteers the day of the event, especially with parking.
Communications – Cavanagh re-emphasized the importance of making submissions for Recognition Night and also getting the word out about the SRCA Fundraising Drive.
Sustainable SR – Plutner indicated they had a very good turn out for Water Purification tour. March 11th Green Living Tour with 2 homes that have solar, green landscaping and elements of composting. Two certified landscape architects will be available to answer questions. Coming up the second Wednesday in March will be a Seminar on Edibles by master gardener.
Schools Committee: Barber reported:
David Morton, Area Superintendent and Kevin Beiser indicated want to focus on student expectations. Stressing importance on performance strategic process planning. How to get students motivated and excited. Find out student traits and skills and use that passion to encourage students based on these.
Traffic & Safety Committee met to discuss issues occurring at the schools.
Jerabek Elementary School is looking at a new blended year round calendar. Initial change costs money. District looking at which schools are interested.
Committee – They have added two positions – Parliamentary and Legislative.
Financials – Allman reported:
Community Center income still doing well. The Bridge group has gone from 3 to 4 days of usage. The church currently using the center on Sundays will be reviewing if they want to continue at our site. New blinds were recently installed on the large windows on either side of the fireplace. The City decided to disconnect the phone line to the site that our Security System was connected to. SRCA obtained a new line.
Newsletter – February had 46 pages of ads with an 80 page Newsletter. Already looking at 50 pages of ads for March issues. The ads continue to fluctuate up and down each month.
