Students Show True Spirit of Giving
Miramar Ranch Elementary School students got a real-life lesson in compassion and generosity. Ms. Wilson’s 3rd grade class collected and put together care packages for the troops in Afghanistan. You see, one of their classmate’s, Gabriel’s, father was deployed during the holidays.
The children generously donated candy, cookies, snacks, drink mixes, coffee, books, and DVDs and sent them to the Marines in the Helmand Province. The best part was the sweet letters the students wrote to the troops.
When Gabriel’s dad, Jorge Minjares, returned, he brought the class a surprise—a full-size American flag (displayed below)that was on the ship and a small flag that he carried on his helicopter when providing ground support during Operation Enduring Freedom. The flags came along with a certificate signed by the captains and sergeants of the “Flying Tiger” and says the flags were carried “in honor of Ms. Wilson’s 3rd grade class.” They are both proudly displayed in Miramar Ranch Elementary School’s classroom B9. The flags make the students’ daily pledge of allegiance more meaningful.
Thank you to Mr. Minjares for recognizing the class in this special way. Great job to the students for demonstrating their true MRE spirit and character!
