Negley Avenue to Pomerado Road Storm Drain Replacement Construction:

10/30/24: City beginning to replace failed storm drain in Negley Avenue that will be repaired from Pomerado Road. The SRCA has been working with the city and impacted homeowner on Negley Avenue for the past four years. Typically the storm drain is a concrete pipe from the curb inlet that goes underground to the canyon outlet to drain. In this case it is a corrugated metal pipe that has rusted and eroded away completely. The city was monitoring the pipe conditions during rain storms and due to the conditions elevated it as an emergency repair. Going step by step through the engineering evaluation and design, we are happy to announce that instead of trenching through the homeowner’s yard that the city will sleeve a new concrete pipe instead.

The work will require excavating the open space slope damage from the erosion and extending the drain down the slope closer to Pomerado Road. The east-west trail will be reconnected at the end of the construction and we are striving to find a temporary access for trail users and mountain bikers. Please do not enter the construction work zone. This effectively closes SR 12 Trail. A number of trees will be removed and only those trees necessary to do the repair work.

The SRCA has reviewed the traffic control plan as the slope restoration construction will be staged from Pomerado Road working up the slope. The traffic control plan shifts the westbound and eastbound lanes so that both lanes of travel will continue. Vehicles and bikes will have to share the road in the lane shift. The shift
happens at the Chabad Driveway and to the west.

The Pomerado Road impact will be workdays Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 3:30 pm that could be two to three months in duration. No traffic control flagman so not a repeat of the SDGE construction traffic.

We are cognizant of the community’s concerns and working cooperatively with the city and contractor to reduce the impact as much as possible. Doing the due diligence to find a doable solution as Col. Dingeman set as an expectation for many decades of community advocacy.
