SRWAC Scholarship Winners

The Scripps Ranch Women’s Athletic Club (SRWAC) would like to congratulate Isabel Lee, Sydney Wooten, and Emma Rucker of Scripps Ranch High School, and Megan Franke of Sante Fe Christian as this year’s college scholarship recipients. These impressive young women were selected based on their academic, athletic, and community service achievements. We wish them the best as they pursue their academic and career goals.

Are you a woman inspired by the U.S. Women’s World Cup soccer team? We know who you are. The mom who volunteers as her child’s basketball coach. Who can demonstrate a jump-shot. The woman who hasn’t played soccer since high school but reminisced about her perfect through-ball pass that set up the winning goal. Who had the 20” vertical jump to spike the volleyball, but now, years later, it’s more like 7.” We are you.

We are your sports-loving sisters at the SRWAC. Whether you want to play soccer, basketball, or volleyball, we are here for you. If you are interested in playing with a great group of women, please visit www.srwac.org for more information.

San Diego Clippers Win Again!

Exactly one year after their first championship title in the 7th Grade Division of the 2014 San Diego Sol Spring Basketball League, the Scripps Ranch 8th grade boys—known as the San Diego Clippers—won the 2015 San Diego Sol Spring Basketball Championship in the 8th Grade Division.

The San Diego Clippers finished the season with a 7-1 record as the first ranking team. In the first game of the playoffs the team played and won against the Falcons Elite team from Solana Beach by 25 points, 39-14.

The championship was an exciting, relentless, and compellingly close basketball game. The Mira Mesa Marauders took a timeout in the last few seconds just when they were losing by 3 points. The game started again, and, apparently, the Marauders were desperately trying their best to get a 3-point shot. Right when the game ended, a referee called a foul where the Marauders shooter was around the 3-point line but not outside it. He shot the free-throws and the game still ended by a 2-point difference. At the end the 2015 championship title came home to Scripps Ranch, with the final score: San Diego Clippers, 34; Marauders, 32.

The coaches are so proud of these kids for coming together to establish not only a great competitive team but also lively friendships, great athleticism, and enduring sportsmanship for the last year and a half. Even though it comes down to one final game and 36 minutes of game time, each one of them helped during the practices, games, and other activities. Every player was essential to winning this championship. The coaches also would like to thank all of the parents for supporting the kids and the team. Without their support, encouragement, and understanding, this team would have not happened!

Scripps Ranch Girl Wins at Petco Park!

Scripps Ranch resident Michelle Kramer (above) recently competed in the 2015 Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, and Run Competition. After winning both the local and sectional competitions for the girls 9–10 age bracket, Michelle’s high sectional score qualified her to compete in the Team Championship at Petco Park prior to a Padres game.

The Team Championship featured the top three sectional qualifiers in each age group from throughout Southern California and Southern Nevada. Michelle’s performance at the championship earned first place! She received tickets to that evening’s Padres game, and Michelle and the winners in the other age groups were featured in an on-field ceremony and on the Jumbotron before the Padres game.

Michelle said, “It was so exciting to play at Petco Park and be on the field in front of a lot of people!” Michelle has played in the SR Softball Association since T-ball. Congratulations!

Registration for Scripps Ranch Lacrosse Girls Fall Ball is now open. Interested girls in grades 5–8 are encouraged to register regardless of experience level. Soccer players and interested 4th graders with at least one season of experience or 9th graders with no previous experience also are welcome.

Practices start in early September and will be on Mondays and Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 pm. Please email Andrea Ervay at [email protected] to indicate your interest and ask any questions. More details are at www.SRLax.org.
