President Ilko called the meeting to order at 7:06 pm. Bob showed three signs that private businesses had posted in the ranch and that had been taken down. The owner is notified that they are not allowed to post the signs and signs given back. If find in the future the signs will be moved and thrown out.
Lockheed Martin had a “Women in Engineering Day” and several Scripps Ranch residents attended. SRCA is partnering with Lockheed Martin on a Quarterly Blood Drive to be held December 16th from 9 am to 2 pm.
5th Council District – Jack Straw reported:
Meanley Water Tank Facility – run by City of SD Water Department. The grass had grown very high and a lot of trash. They have cut the grass and picked up all the trash. They are in process of awarding a new contract. This is an unofficial site many residents bring their dogs to exercise.
Road to Recovery – this is being released by DeMaio this week and will be on City’s website.
It provides additional ways to cut spending but not services.
Assemblyman Fletcher – Sterling McHale indicated that December 6th is the first day the new legislature reconvenes.
Embrace – [email protected]. SD State University Alumni feeds homeless downtown and looking for gently used clothing which can be dropped off at Fletcher’s office in Mira Mesa on November 14th from 12 noon to 2:00 pm.
Coyotes – this issue is under the jurisdiction of Department of Fish & Game. Their hotline is 858-467-4257. They do not remove the animals but rather give information on best practices on how to deal with them. There will be an article in the next Newsletter.
Congressman Hunter – Ellen Malin handed out the Congressman’s “A Pledge to America” which deals with reducing government spending and size of government.
Job Fair – To be held February 25th from 9:00 am to 12 noon at Cuyamaca College. Looking formore companies to participate that are hiring.
Firegrille – Ron Nugent owner and SRCA supporter was introduced. He owns the restaurant 12015 Scripps Highland and has been located there for five years. They offer steaks/fish in a friendly relaxing atmosphere. They also cater.
Neighborhood Watch – Ilko wanted to inform members that three young black youths have been selling magazine and a couple of them are very aggressive and have received complaint from residents. They do not have a business permit with the City. Please report any issues with this. The City has been informed of the aggressive nature and bad language used on residents.
Anniversary Race/Run – Ilko reported that there they have received 100 registrations to date. The break even number for costs being provided by SRCA was 500 participants. Flyers have gone out at several events and soon will be on Facebook. Kiwanis will help with set up and Elder Care in handing out cake. Still need volunteers for various needs and should contact Paul Vaughan. Ilko also asked folks to try to get the word out – date December 12th. A SR resident will be taking photos and will be offering for sale in $3-$7 range. The photos taken for community will be free.
Membership – Claude Braunstein said the kick off of the campaign will be in January. Letters will be mailed out to residents, be in focus section of January issue of Newsletter and also be on SRCA website.
Holiday Celebration – Dingeman reminded everyone it will be on December 12th at Jerabek Park. Singing at 4:30 pm with tree lighting at 5:00 pm. DeMaio, Marie Corp will be there along with Girl Scouts serving refreshments. Also collecting toys for Toys for Tots.
Sustainable SR – Plutner reported that on November 10th at the Community Center at 6:30 pm will be having a discussion on harvesting rainwater. They have moved their Sustainable Forum to early 2011.
SRPG – Boerner reported:
Spring Canyon Water Tank – Some existing antennas ownership will be transferred from one user to another next year. One resident opposed this and the Planning Group agreed to help pay the cost for the appeal even though they are not backing the appeal. The City has approved the conditional use permit and this must now be taken to the Planning Commission.
Aliant /Chabad – Working on one master plan for south of Pomerado which includes Senior Housing. Todd chair of SRPD is chairing sub-committee on this.
SR MAD – Ilko indicated that next year’s budget is expected to be $75,000 in the hold. CPI allows a 1 ½% increase however the living wage went up 4 ½%. This means we will have less maintenance. Budget Planning group meets in December and their outcome will be an action item in January. No decision has been made yet about when to consider a vote to raise maintenance fees.
Schools Committee – Barber reminded us they meet the third week of the month.
Budget crisis is occupying all discussions right now. District claims they have already cut to the bone and no easy cuts left. Another 23% needs to be cut in 2011.
SRHS Air Conditioning – efforts had been made to move up when air conditioning would be installed but it was shut down and stay for 2015.
Race to Nowhere – This film being shown and jointly supported by HS and School and tickets are $10.
Scholarships – This will be focus section of December issue of Newsletter. Bob and Elissa interviewed some impressive candidates and have picked three. The Principal of SRHS will make the announcement to the students. The selection and awarding of scholarships was moved up so the winners can put this down on their college applications.
Financials – Allman handed out the reports for October income and expenditures. Not many expenditures this time of year. The Newsletter was down to 76 pages and ads still down from a couple of years ago. The Community Center room rental is still make money.
Elder Care Alliance – Randall reported:
Memory Screening Day – November 16th from 9:00 am to noon
Emergency Preparedness – Having 9 workshops
Sr. Housing Forum – February 6th at Marshall Middle School. Experts in many areas will be
mostly from North County to discuss various placement options available.
Chronic Disease Self Management Program – They are looking at 20 sites where older adults reside. Hoping to be one of those sites. Participants would go through various classes that are 2 ½ hours for six weeks.
A motion by Wurtzler and seconded by Mueller was made to adjourn the meeting.
