Scripps Ranch Planning Group (SRPG)
At our April meeting your Scripps Ranch Planning Group (SRPG) heard a report on the San Diego Port Master Plan update from Commissioner Rafael Castellanos. He described improvements to parks and other facilities around San Diego Bay. Also the San Diego Performing Arts Academy updated plans for a new Conditional Use Permit for a school site.
American Red Cross
Ricardo Moran from the Red Cross described the project to “Prepare San Diego.” This is a four-year initiative to train one million people around the city of San Diego in emergency planning and preparation. Lessons learned from hurricanes Katrina and Sandy show that prepared communities need less assistance and rebuild more quickly.
The goal of the Red Cross is to have each household and community prepare for various types of disasters by developing a plan, practicing it, and obtaining and maintaining emergency kits in each car. For more details, visit the Red Cross website at [www.redcross.org/prepare].
Nob Hill Pipeline Improvement
The SRPG authorized an ad hoc subcommittee to prepare a response to the draft Environmental Impact Report. This concerns fencing and site security at the neighboring residential complex. It was submitted to the city on April 4.
Carroll Canyon “Big Box” Proposal
Again this month there has been no change in status—we are waiting for the final Environmental Impact Report. When complete, the SRPG will vote on a recommendation to the City Council.
There will be opportunity for public comment at SRPG meetings, as well as City Planning Commission and City Council hearings. Please see [www.scrippsranch.org] to complete the survey of residents’ opinions concerning this project, and visit the website often to keep up with events that affect our community.
Continuing Life Communities
As of April there has been no change in status for The Glen at Scripps Ranch senior living project. The draft Environmental Impact Report on this project is in preparation.
Election of Officers
The group elected Scott Hilberg as co-vice chair and re-elected Todd Philips as co-vice chair. In addition, Tamar Silverstein was re-elected as secretary, and I was re-elected as chair.
The SRPG meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7 pm at the Scripps Ranch Library. The next meeting is on Thursday, June 5. The meetings are open to the public and we encourage input from residents. If you have any questions, please email me at [[email protected]].
