Scripps Ranch Planning Group (SRPG)
Planning Group Vacancy
We have a vacancy on the Scripps Ranch Planning Group (SRPG). Gary Harrison resigned due to work travel commitments. We thank Gary for his service
If you are interested in being appointed to the unexpired term that runs until March 2018, please contact me at [email protected] To be eligible for appointment, you must be a Scripps Ranch resident or business representative and have attended at least two meetings of the planning group during the preceding 12 months.
At its Oct. 13 meeting the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) voted unanimously to approve the Alternative 5 route for the SDG&E Sycamore-Peñasquitos 230Kv transmission line. This will involve undergrounding the line along Stonebridge Parkway and Pomerado Road to Interstate 15. The line will continue underground through much of the Mira Mesa business district.
Both the SRPG and the Miramar Ranch North Planning Committee voted to oppose Alternative 5. Our State Assembly member Brian Maienschein also urged the CPUC to adopt a less costly alternative.
Unless there is a legal challenge to the commission’s decision, construction will begin in 2017. This will involve substantial excavation and lane closures along all of Pomerado Road in Scripps Ranch.
Measures C and D Explained
At our October meeting we had a detailed presentation explaining the provisions of Measure C—the new stadium proposal—and D, the Citizen’s Initiative. Both measures include a Transient Occupancy Tax increase to 16.5 or 15.5%. Both apparently require a two-thirds majority to pass, but this may require interpretation by the California Supreme Court.
Newbreak Church requested an amendment to its existing conditional use permit. It would like to expand its facility from 6,900 to 33,000 square feet in its building at 10635 Scripps Ranch Boulevard at the corner of Scripps Lake Drive, as well as extend the permit for 20 years. The SRPG unanimously recommended approval.
The SRPG meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7 pm in the Scripps Ranch Library. Please attend our next meeting on Thursday, Dec. 1. Let me know if you are interested in appointment to the planning group. Contact me at [email protected]
