Scripps Ranch Planning Group (SRPG)
Sycamore-Peñasquitos Electrical Transmission Line
Construction began in early April on the western part of the line in Mira Mesa. Work is beginning now on the eastern end of the line, from Stonebridge west along Pomerado Road. Traffic arrangements were not complete at press time, but we expect substantial disruption, including temporary road or lane closures. Work will hopefully avoid Marshall Middle School hours. Please see the SDG&E website at www.sdge.com/key-initiatives/SX-PQ-Updates for more information.
Natural Gas Pipeline Safety and Reliability Project
The Notice of Preparation for environmental documents should be released on Tuesday, May 9, with responses due no later than Thursday, June 8. Scoping meetings will be held on Thursday, May 25, in Scripps Ranch. Please go to www.scrippsranch.org for the location. Also, visit www.cpuc.ca.gov/environment/info/ene/sandiego/sandiego.html#Home for more information.
Fire Code Compliance
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department is starting a home assessment program to build a database of structure information, particularly for homes near canyons and brush areas. The database will evaluate roofs, vegetation around homes, propane tanks if any, and other details. SDFD representatives will visit each home later this year. Residents do not need to be home for the exterior assessment.
This spring is the time to begin brush management around homes. Scripps Ranch is a very high fire hazard area, and this year’s rains have contributed to more vegetation growth than usual. Please make sure that the city’s brush management guidelines are followed around your home and homeowners association area. Visit www.sandiego.gov/sites/default/files/brush_0.pdf for specific information about the city requirements.
Pure Water Program
The Water Department will give an update on the Pure Water Program at our Thursday, May 4, meeting. In April the SRPG unanimously voted to recommend that new parking be added at Miramar Lake as part of the construction program.
In April the SRPG elected officers for 2017–2018: Wally Wulfeck, chair; Scott Hilberg and Sandy Wetzel-Smith, vice chairs; and Tamar Silverstein, secretary.
The SRPG meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7 pm at the Scripps Ranch Library. Please attend our next meeting on Thursday, May 4. We expect updates on the SDG&E transmission line project under Pomerado Road, the proposed gas line, and The Glen at Scripps Ranch senior living community. For questions, please email me at [email protected]
