Special Meeting

The Scripps Ranch Planning Group (SRPG) held a special meeting in July at Alliant International University (AIU). Special thanks to AIU for hosting the meeting because the library meeting room was unavailable.

Captain Paul O’Brien of the San Diego Fire Department’s Metro Arson Strike Team had an update on the local teen arrested on suspicion of starting the canyon fire on June 28. The fire cost about $40,000, for which the teenager’s family could be responsible for paying.

Also present were Battalion Chief Hathaway, Captain Warren Geiske, and the crew of Fire Station 37. Lesli Halik, a SDFD public information officer, was also introduced. She is looking for ways to communicate directly with Scripps Ranch children about fire danger.

AIU Master Plan

The AIU Master Plan Subcommittee met in July. It received the first of many presentations by AIU in preparing for a new master plan for the approximately 60 acres owned by AIU.

City of Villages

SRPG Chair Bob Ilko discussed the City of Villages Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR). He informed board members that the final EIR includes 15,000 to 17,000 housing units and incorporates transit design guidelines.

When a pilot village location is identified, a master EIR could be required. The City of Villages map includes Davis Ranch, AIU, Western Pacific Housing (WPH), Chabad, and the new middle school parcels.

The next step is for the City of Villages to go to the Planning Commission –likely in September–and then on to the City Council, possibly in fall 2002.

Chabad Update

SRPG member Alan Green from Chabad assured the community that the "playful colors" they plan to use on campus will only be seen inward from the school. The exterior colors visible from Pomerado Road and Crown Pointe will be bone white and Navajo white.

In July, a grading permit was issued and activity is underway on Chabad’s expansion. The SRPG raised issues regarding whether eucalyptus trees will be removed as part of the grading permit. Chabad’s Conditional Use Permit application will be submitted when the building permit is issued.
