The West Sycamore extension of Mission Trails Regional Park (MTRP) is a joy for Scripps Ranch residents for hiking, mountain biking, star parties, and nature walks. The staging area / trailhead is directly at the end of Stonebridge Parkway and trails connect to Goodan Ranch and MTRP in Santee through the USMC property with a permit (the Stowe Trail.)

Improvements to the West Sycamore area are contained in the MTRP Master Plan Update recently approved by the City Council. The update is available here: For West Sycamore, the improvements include: providing a restroom, ranger station, hitching posts, picnic tables, shade structure at the staging area and a new trail to Beeler Canyon.

In May, the MTRP Citizens AdvisoryCommittee, with SRCA representation, recommended a capital improvement project for the West Sycamore staging area to induce water, toilet facilities, improved ranger station, and forwarded the recommendation to the Task Force. It appears that funding is available and that the project could move forward expeditiously through planning and execution. The SRCA representative on the Citizens Advisory Committee, Kin Searcy, will provide details and timelines as the improvement project moves forward. There should be an opportunity to “sponsor” picnic benches and include plaques.
