Scripps Ranch Little League’s (SRLL) Opening Day is always a wonderful community event and this year was no exception. The day featured the Parade of Teams, Padres’ Friar and Pad Squad, and the always popular Home Run Derby.
This year SRLL is starting young, adding 4-year-olds to the schedule. In addition, we made a number of field improvements in the off-season. Tractors were purchased to maintain our fields, many of the storage sheds are new, and the bullpen areas have been upgraded. We are working to get new scoreboards installed at Jerabek Park soon.
Support SRLL by bringing your family to Board and Brew on Wednesday, Mar. 21. A portion of proceeds from that day will be donated to SRLL. Also, stop by Jerabek or Spring Canyon parks any Saturday this spring to grab a hot dog and watch future all-stars play ball!

Scripps Ranch Women’s Athletic Club
The Scripps Ranch Women’s Athletic Club (SRWAC) has resumed three sports: volleyball, basketball, and soccer. We are always looking for players, especially to our Wednesday Volleyball League. It’s played at the Scripps Ranch Recreation Center on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Please email Vivian Ash at [email protected] for details.
High school senior girls, keep an eye on our website at www.SRWAC.org for scholarship applications. Scholarships are open to girls living in 92131 who are involved in sports and can demonstrate how sports have impacted their lives. The deadline is Friday, Apr. 13, at midnight.
The National Junior Basketball (NJB) program is designed to introduce, teach, and develop the fundamentals of basketball to our youth, as well as to promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition. NJB believes this creates a valuable learning experience for the children of our community.
Scripps Ranch NJB celebrated the end of its 21st season at closing ceremonies in February. League play concluded with our Division 1 tournament, where Teams Jewell and Kramer were the division champions and Teams Yue/Feldman and Medeiros were runners-up. Congratulations to all the teams!
More than 400 boys and girls from grades 3–8 participated in the league this season, in addition to several high school NJB alumni who volunteered their time as coaches and junior board members. We are very grateful for our local sponsors—see the ad on the page to your left—who helped fund and support this year’s league. We would not have been able to provide such a great program without their help.
Our All-Star teams will compete in several exciting NJB and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) post-season tournaments throughout March. As we close the score books on another season, we want to thank our players, parents, and Scripps Ranch High School for making this season such a success! A special shout-out also goes to our coaches who volunteered many hours for practices and games.
We look forward to seeing you on the courts in the fall! Registration for the 2018–2019 season opens on Saturday, Sept. 1. For more information, contact us at [email protected] and visit www.scrippsranchnjb.org. Also, “Like” the Scripps Ranch NJB Facebook page to see photos and videos from the season!
Tania Kramer and Marilou Pennington, Chapter Directors
The Scripps Ranch Soccer Club (SRSC) is already planning for the 2018 fall season. As part of the new season, we are excited to announce our re-branding.
In the winter the board worked with HRO Designs to create a new, modern club shield (above). We’re very excited to unveil it, as well as new competitive uniforms, competitive “Street Soccer” scrimmages on Friday nights, and a partnership with a local business that will allow our swag to be purchased in Scripps Ranch! For details, please visit www.scrippsranchsc.com or our Facebook page.
The SRSC 2018 Board of Directors consists of: Scott Brown, president; Ken Marra, vice president; Gina Matthew, secretary; Ailene McManus, treasurer; and Gina Beall, John Colletto, Lori Florez, Greg Jones, Christina Macatee, and Bob Scharf as board members. ChaCha Namdar remains the director of coaching, and Rick Harmonson is our registrar. We look forward to a great soccer season!
