Fun on the Field

Softball season is here! This month you can look forward to assessments in early January and finding out what team you are on toward the end of the month.

Don’t worry if you are feeling a little rusty. There is still plenty of time to sharpen your skills before the season starts. There is a free skills clinic for our 10U, 12U, and 14U players on Saturday, Jan. 12. For this clinic, the Scripps Ranch Softball Association (SRSA) is excited to partner with Scripps Ranch High School softball to provide a fun environment for the girls to learn and improve their skills.

For more information on the upcoming season and available clinics, visit the SRSA website at We can’t wait to see you out on the field!

Join the SRWAC for Sports and Fun

The Scripps Ranch Women’s Athletic Club (SRWAC) is enjoying a busy winter season. Our board membership is growing and very active. We have added and modernized ways for our players to sign up and pay for leagues. We are enjoying a huge number of athletes in our sports leagues. The SRWAC was also proud to sponsor a Scripps Ranch Soccer Club team and the CIF champions, the Scripps Ranch High girls field hockey team.

Women’s soccer resumes in late February after a month off. Basketball plays nearly year-round with open gym sessions between seasons. The amount of fun is huge and the skill level is high.

Our Volleyball League is on hiatus while we look for a way to structure a different time slot and possibly a different format. Players enjoy an all-ages open gym right now. Coed softball resumes in June.

Players of all abilities and ages—over 25—are always welcome to join our leagues. Please see our website at or call Mary Lawler at 619-857-5881 for the dates our leagues begin.

Denise Taber hosted the annual SRWAC Holiday Potluck Gala at her home. We had wonderful food and drink, played pool, darts, and ping pong, and enjoyed a night off from outdoor sports. She’s a superb hostess! We have a board member luncheon in January to welcome our new members. Winter and spring will bring more social events, in addition to our sports leagues.

Super Bowl Champs!

The Lions flag football team went undefeated against some stiff competition from all over San Diego County, more than 70 teams! The Scripps Ranch team is comprised of a special group of 5th and 6th grade boys, who had a perfect 12-0 record, culminating with a 27-20 Super Bowl championship.

Coaches Flint and Pavlik joined forces after meeting a year ago on the practice field at the Scripps Ranch Community Park. Coach Flint had been coaching flag football for eight years, with a couple of appearances in the finals, before getting the “ring” and retiring from coaching football.

The boys met while attending Dingeman and Ellen Browning Scripps elementary schools. They now attend Marshall Middle School together and compete during the school’s lunchtime sports program.

4th Grade Basketball Teams go to Championships!

In the San Diego SOL 2018 fall club basketball season, both 4th grade teams from Scripps Ranch were runners up in the Gold and Silver divisions. The Gold team had a 6-2 record and the Silver team had a 5-3 record. Congratulations to both teams and their coaches on a terrific season and postseason play!
