Scripps Ranch Women’s Athletic Club
The Scripps Ranch Women’s Athletic Club (SRWAC) is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to provide the residents of Scripps Ranch and nearby communities with sports programs and sports-related support. In additions, our fundraising and volunteer efforts are focused in Scripps Ranch: we provide scholarships annually for local high school senior girls, support youth sports programs, and sponsor Symphony in the Park concerts.
A new 10-week basketball season begins Monday, Apr. 22. This recreational league is open to women ages 25 and older of all skills levels. Games are played Monday nights at the Scripps Ranch Recreation Center. The cost is $80 for non-SRWAC members or $70 for members. Teams are assigned prior to the first night, and new players are required to attend open gym on Monday, Apr. 1, 8, or 15, for assessment and team placement. For details, please visit [www.srwac.org].
The SRWAC also offers an annual Athletic and Academic Scholarship and encourages all high school female athletes to apply. Eligibility requirements are: Scripps Ranch resident (92131) for the past two years; female senior graduating in June; minimum 3.0 GPA; and, active in sports and community service.
Applications are available at local high school counseling centers and online. For details, contact Sylvia Ferrer-McGrade at 693-1600 or [[email protected]]. Applications must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, May 1.
National Junior Basketball (NJB) is celebrating its 29th anniversary and our local Scripps Ranch chapter just completed its 16th season! The NJB program is designed to introduce, teach, and develop the fundamentals of basketball to our local youth—as well as to promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition. We feel this creates a valuable learning experience for the children.
We just completed one of our most successful season in years, with 450 Scripps Ranch boys and girls in grades 3–8 making up our 46 teams! This year’s turnout was the largest group we’ve had in seven years! We are very grateful for all of our local sponsors (please see the full page ad in this Newsletter) who helped fund and support this year’s league!
We wish the best of success to our 12 All-Star teams that will participate in NJB’s postseason tournaments through April. As we close the books on another season, we thank our players, coaches, parents, and Scripps Ranch High School for such a successful season! We look forward to seeing you on the courts next fall!
