Scripps Ranch Soccer Club–Register Now!

Soccer season is upon us! The Scripps Ranch Soccer Club’s (SRSC) registration deadline is Wednesday, June 15. Please visit our website to complete the registration process, including credit card payment. It is imperative all players be timely registered for the 2011 soccer season.

The SRSC is a nonprofit organization run primarily through volunteer efforts. Our club’s success is due largely to the great sense of community spirit and valued support. With more than 1,500 children in our program–ages 5 to 19–we are able to field many recreational and competitive teams, which participate in the San Diego Presidio League.

Our club is dedicated to promoting youth soccer, encouraging the positive aspects that team sports play in the lives of our children, and developing skilled soccer players with a long-lasting love of the sport. To achieve our goals, we rely not only on overwhelming volunteer efforts but also on individual, local, and corporate sponsorship donations.

Your donations help keep our registration fees affordable and contribute to ongoing equipment, maintenance, and field improvement needs. It also allows our club to offer special clinics and other programs. We offer financial assistance to qualifying families.

We continue to value the long-lasting relationships with our loyal sponsors and hope new sponsors consider donating. We encourage all sponsors and potential sponsors to visit our website and see the exciting sponsorship opportunities. For more information regarding sponsorships or the SRSC, please refer to our website at [] or call the hotline at 974-5393.

Postseason Play!

June will be exciting for Scripps Ranch Little League. On Saturday, June 11, we will have our Closing Day ceremonies that include the World Series games between our American and National League champions. We also present our Sportsmanship Awards to players who embody the SRLL ideals. The events will be at Jerabek Park.

On Saturday, June 18, we will have our annual All-Division games for our MAPs, single A, and AA divisions. This year these games will be at Spring Canyon Park. We moved the games from the usual location because this year we are privileged to host the District 32 Majors Division Tournament of Champions at Jerabek Park. The tournament begins on Monday, June 13, and runs through Wednesday, June 22. Twelve teams– two from Scripps Ranch–will compete in a single-elimination tournament to determine the best regular season team in District 32’s Majors Division.

For the second year we will sponsor a tournament for District 32 teams comprised of players 9 years old and younger. The games are at Jerabek Park starting Friday, June 24, and continue on Saturday and Sunday. Please come out to the parks on any of these dates.

After these tournaments are completed we would love to have you travel with us to the All-Star tournaments within District 32 and cheer our teams to victory. This year many of the tournaments are nearby–Rancho Penasquitos, Mira Mesa, Mission Bay. The schedules and directions to fields will be posted at []. We look forward to seeing you at the games!

Girls Softball

A fun-filled recreation season has now come to an end! Thank you to all of the families and businesses that supported the Scripps Ranch Softball Association (SRSA) during the 2011 season. We really appreciate it! The girls had fun, made new friends, and learned new skills. All the teams had a great season!

We had double-elimination playoffs and it was close. Matt Allison’s U12 team “Firework” took first place, as did Scott Pritchard’s U10 team “The Renegades” and Patty Luxtion’s U8 team “The Grey Wolvers”! Congrats to those coaches and players! Look for our team photos throughout this Sports section.

All-Stars is up next. Thank you to all who tried out and helped that day. Good luck in all of your tournaments. Scripps Ranch hosts a tournament from Thursday, June 2, through Sunday, June 5.

Follow the SRSA news on our website at []. Look for details about Fall Ball. We will take names on an interest list until Friday, July 1. Thanks again for a fun season!

We are nearly at the end of a very successful season for Scripps Ranch Lacrosse (SRLAX). Our program is becoming stronger and more competitive every year. More importantly, we continue to see an increase in new players who discover and learn lacrosse through SRLAX. This year we have a record 50 Pee Wee players, grades 1-4, which is more than double the number we had last year. SRLAX is very fortunate this year to have an excellent group of coaches.

We would like to send out a huge thank you to our business sponsors:

  • Hatch Dental
  • Mammini Company

Thanks also to the following families who sponsored SRLAX this year:

  • Ayers Family
  • Bryan Family
  • Chung Family
  • Diehl Family
  • Dyte Family
  • Fleming Family
  • Hillegas Family
  • Ivy Family
  • Montgomery Family
  • Stephan Family
  • Thomas Family

Also, we would like to recognize all of the great parent volunteers who help run the club. Four of our board members, all

of whom have been involved with SRLAX for many years, have players who will move on to high school next year. We are grateful to Cindy Dyte, Joe Fleming, Elizabeth Mammini, and Mike Snider for all of their hard work and contributions to the success of SRLAX.

Finally, I am very proud of the tremendous job our coaches have done this year. They helped our kids develop as lacrosse players, in addition to teaching by example the importance of good character and sportsmanship.

We will post information regarding summer camps and leagues on our website at []. Information regarding fall clinics and the 2012 season will be posted in early fall.

Mark Deffley, SRLAX President

Scripps Ranch Pop Warner

If you want to play football or do cheer this fall, it’s not too late to sign up! We still have openings in all divisions. If your child plans to play football or cheer in high school, we recommend they participate in Scripps Ranch Pop Warner (SRPW). Our coaches teach the fundamentals of football, and our cheer trainers teach all the high school cheers to our cheerleaders! To sign up, please register online at our website.

Teams have completed player assessments and met their coaches and teammates. We strongly suggest that players sign up for our summer conditioning camp put on by Fitness Quest 10 to get in shape. It is a great way to prepare for the two weeks of mandatory conditioning.

Once again, SRPW will participate in the 4th of July Parade. Cheer us on as we take part in this community tradition!

We will distribute player equipment on Saturday, July 9 and 16, at the SRPW container at Scripps Ranch High School. Players must bring their completed physical forms and final report cards to receive equipment. Mandatory conditioning starts on Monday, Aug. 1, so please don’t plan vacations then!

Please check our website at [] for up-to-date information. Go Falcons!

Lisa Gorski, SRPW President

Basketball Camp

The Miramar College Jets Basketball program will run three full-day basketball camps this summer. The coaches are the Miramar Jets Basketball staff: Nick Gehler, John Egidio, and Brian Hershman, a former Scripps Ranch High coach. College players will assist as well. If you sign up and mention the SRCA Newsletter, you will receive a $55 discount. We also will swim at the Ned Baumer pool next to the Miramar gym.

This is our second annual camp. Last year we had more than 150 campers! Campers get a ball, T-shirt, and an evaluation packet along with Jersey Mike subs the final day.

The camps are for boys and girls, ages 6-14, and they run from 9 am to 4 pm:

  • Session I: Monday, June 27-Thursday, June 30;
  • Session II: Monday, July 11-Thursday, July 14; and,
  • Session III: Monday, Aug.-Thursday, Aug. 4.
