All-Star Girls Softball

Scripps Ranch Girls Fast Pitch Softball wrapped up its spring recreation season in May with championships decided in four divisions. The Seniors title went to the Patriots coached by Mike Jackson. Team members were Megan Flicker, Arielle Hansen, Ciara Jackson, Carmen Ruhlken, Carla Nava, Cassandra Nava, Brittney Sawyer, Katie Sigler, Janelle Sorensen, Jamie Suchoski, and Whitney Whiting.

The Solar Sisters, coached by Doug Lambell, Andy Gallagher, and Mike Johnson, took the Majors championship, defeating the Fruit Loops. The Sisters included Dani Cohen, Meghan Fitzpatrick, Colleen Gallagher, Melissa Johnson, Devyn Lambell, Brittani Lopez, Brianna Means, Alexa Paulus, Diana Ramos, Elena Ramos, and Emily Sackett.

In what certainly has been a year for patriots, our own Minors AA Patriots won the championship. The Patriots beat the Dawgs 7-3 in a hard-fought game. The Patriots overcame a previous loss to the Dawgs by winning an extra-innings game–it spanned two days–and two other games before facing the Dawgs again in the championship battle.

Each member of the team contributed to the Patriots’ championship season with clutch hitting, fielding, and base running. Pitchers Tori Torrescano, Elizabeth Marinovich, and Sarah Shine did a great job in a very competitive division.

Other team members were Emily Alexander, Courtney Bruno, Katie Christensen, Janae Fulcher, Nicole Jaquez, McClain Morris, Carolyn Mickelson, Moira Niesman, and Flavia Salvadori. Coaches Kelly Morris and Marty Jaquez congratulate the Patriots for their team effort, enthusiasm, and great play. Way to go, Patriots!

Finally, the Firestix beat Purple Power to take the Minors A title. Team members were Emily Berg, Amy Brown, Meredith Brown, Katie Carter, Alexis Hall, Lauren Heckendorn, Sarah Masters, Jessica Olson, Carissa Pappas, Taylor Parker, and Beth Smetana. Alan Heckendorn, Craig Brown, and Ted Olson coached the Firestix.

Less than a week later, the Scripps Ranch tournament teams played at the San Dieguito Memorial Day Tournament. The 8U teal team took second place to powerhouse Vista. The 10U teal team advanced to the semi-finals, and the 12U teal team to the quarter finals.

Also in May, the 10th annual Scripps Ranch All-Star Tournament hosted over 60 teams from Southern California. The 8U teal and 10U teal teams capped the exciting weekend with title game victories over Fountain Valley and Murrieta. The 12U teal and 10U white teams both advanced to the semi-finals.

Scripps teams continued their winning ways at the Mira Mesa tournament. The 8U teal team took first place, the 12U teal took second, and the 10U teal came in third. With more tournaments to come, some families are running out of trophy space!
