The Scripps Ranch Falcons 14U Competitive Baseball Team traveled to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in July. They competed in the Triple Crown Baseball World Series Championship. A total of 124 teams in four categories–ages 10, 12, 14, and 16–were there. They competed in their age division with 43 other teams from around the country.
Members of the Falcons, lead by Coach Paul Vracar and assisted by Julio Anzures, were Dominic Ackerman, Marco Anzures, Sal Balisteri, Glenn Gray, Mark Haddow, Dominic Malcangio, Buster Mueller, Ryan Ortiz, Blake Stillson, and E.J. Tacason. Other team members include Estevaun Carrion, Christian Haupt, Jorge Romero, and Dana Thomason.
The team lost their first game but won the next two, beating the Nebraska and Colorado state champs. This vaulted the Falcons into the championship round. They ended up placed in a tie for ninth and received a large plaque, which will be on display in the trophy case in the Scripps Ranch Recreation Center.
Scripps Ranch Falcons 12U team went to Cooperstown, New York, in August. What an exciting time it was for the players! Sixty-four teams around the United States participated, and our Falcons fought their way to third place. What an incredible accomplishment!
Michael Gowdy came in second out of 64 boys in a "Golden Arm" individual skills competition. The team is coached by Bryan Cooper, GM Darl Danford, and Alex De La Pena. Congratulations to all the players for an unbelievable job!
