Scripps Ranch Trail Happenings
Spring is here and it’s a great time to get out and enjoy the trails of Scripps Ranch. Hopefully with some rain in March, we will start seeing a few more flowers and green along our trails in April and May. And it’s a great time to walk quietly and listen to the birds enjoy their natural habitat along our trails.
Did you know that you can see more than just those pesky crows on a trail walk, on your next hike pause and look up, maybe you will see a red tail hawk or hear one calling, or you may also hear the Nuttall’s Woodpecker pounding away at a tree, or see an Anna’s Hummingbird looking for flowers.
The Scripps Ranch Trails Committee is continuing to plan Trail Work Mornings and Community Hikes. In March, we completed the second volunteer cleanup on the Charbono Trail #23 and held our first Community Hike. Another Sunday Morning Community Hike is being planned for May. Watch the Scripps Ranch Information Exchange Facebook page for information or email [email protected] if you want to be added to our email list.
We hope that you find time to get out on our trails for a hike this spring. Trail #7 Wild Grape, through the original Jerabek Park, is a jewel you might want to explore. This beautiful short trail features the historic “secret pyramids” built more than 50 years ago by the original developer of Scripps Ranch.
And, as we move into Spring, please remember our beautiful Scripps Ranch trails are for everyone to enjoy – people and pets! Please make sure whenever you are on the trails to keep your dogs on a leash. Not all dogs are voice command trained and regardless if your dog is friendly, other dogs may take your dog’s approach as a threat and it may result in a confrontation and anxiety for dog owners and individual hikers. If you want to exercise your dog off leash, please take them to an off-leash park.
