Alzheimer’s volunteers are urgently needed. Companion Volunteers provide in-home breaks to caregivers. Volunteers do not help with physical or personal care, but spend time with individuals who have dementia to provide: companionship; engaging activities such as games or gardening; and supervision. There is a minimum six-month commitment of about four hours per week. Weekday volunteers are especially needed. Keep an eye on your community and volunteer at the same time. Join the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP)! Members patrol our neighborhoods and schools, check on the elderly, visit your home when you are on vacation, and alert police to problems. Be a voice for children. Voices for Children’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are trained to help the thousands of children in San Diego’s foster care system.
