The network of trails that lace through Scripps Ranch are one of the many unique and enjoyable features of our community. On any given day, the trails of Scripps Ranch are in use by hikers, dog walkers, parents with kids, bikers and nature lovers.

But that peaceful natural feeling that we all enjoy on our trails needs to be protected and preserved with occasional maintenance and clean up, and that’s where the Scripps Ranch Trails Committee and trail volunteers make a contribution.

For 2025, the Trails Committee is planning for several trail work mornings and we will be adding some guided weekend hikes. The Committee maintains an email list of volunteers that are notified of these events and if you would like to join in, just email your contact information to [email protected].

The first trail work morning of 2025 was a huge success with about 20 volunteers pitching in to rake and clean the Charbono trail #23. This beautiful loop trail circles through a quiet Eucalyptus Grove, but over the years has been covered by leaves and branches and has lots of debris in need of removal.

The trail volunteers included several middle school boys from Lion’s Heart and their moms. The volunteers worked hard for two hours and now the trail is clear and easy to follow. More work on the Charbono Trail will be scheduled later this spring.

Bill Simmons, an avid trail volunteer, was honored at the January Trails Committee meeting. Bill has served as Chair of the Trails Committee since 2022 and led the effort to update the community trails map. Thanks to Bill’s tireless work, our community trails have signs, culvert bridges and continual monitoring and maintenance. Bill has stepped down as Chair of the committee but continues to serve, offering his insights and guidance. Here is a photo of Bill with the plaque he was given honoring his service.
