Planning group elections. The two planning groups in Scripps Ranch (SRPG and MRNPC) have their annual elections in March. These groups are responsible for advising the City on all land-use decisions in and around Scripps Ranch. Will you help us help Scripps Ranch? The Scripps Ranch Civic Association has an office there, and a computer, and information about Scripps Ranch. But we need you! We need volunteers to work in the Center a couple of hours a week. Pass out brochures; talk with people who come in; direct people to our website. Landscape your neighborhood! The Scripps Ranch Landscape Maintenance District (SRLMD) is looking for residents who have an eye for improving their area. You raise the issue and help define the desired result. The SRLMD committee can make it happen. Call Bob Dingeman at 566-6083 if you want to improve your neighborhood.

Do you have an interest and expertise in geographical information systems (GIS)? SRCA is interested in expanding our database to include an electronic mapping of the Ranch, probably based on the SanGIS system that is already in place and available at the Information Center. Do you want to help improve traffic safety throughout Scripps Ranch? SRCA is looking for individuals who are interested in helping solve a variety of traffic problems to improve safety on our streets. Call Luis at 553-9472 if you are interested in helping out.

Who planned that anyway? Help ensure our community continues to be a great place to live. Many proposed changes could significantly change the ambiance of living in Scripps Ranch: 1,000 homes in Sycamore Canyon, 300 homes in the Kmart Center, 1,600 homes for Marine housing. Do you love theatre? Scripps Ranch Theatre is seeking dedicated volunteers to help with lighting design, set construction, backstage help, and more. Looking for something worthwhile to do? Help homeless families by helping fix up apartments offered by the North County Interfaith Council. I am working on my Girl Scout Gold Award. My project is to move homeless families off the streets into apartments. Volunteers are needed to collect clothing and household goods; also to clean, paint, and make the apartments ready for the families. I can use 1 hour of your time or 100 hours. How about a new challenge that’s exciting and interesting, where your help will be very much appreciated? Volunteers are needed for short 2.5-hour shifts working in Book Nook at the Scripps Ranch Library. Duties involve selling used books, T-shirts, and other items during one of three shifts each day. Are you a senior citizen in search of a mission? The SRCA Events Committee needs volunteers to help coordinate the larger community-wide meetings. We need help setting up meeting rooms, providing refreshments, and making sure traffic is directed. Senior citizens, who are available during the day, would be ideal. Meals-on-Wheels needs drivers with autos and riders to deliver meals to home-bound elderly in Scripps Ranch. Commitment is 2 hours, from approximately 11 am to 1 pm, Monday through Saturday, each week, biweekly, or monthly. For information, call 295-9501.
